Many men come to therapy after holding things together for a long time. Often they feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or stuck, and aren’t sure what’s wrong or what they need help with. Some hope they can just turn up and be fixed. My role is to help you get clear, steady, and back in control, working together on what you actually want to change.
I’m Liza. I’m an online and face to face counsellor based in Stockport, Greater Manchester. I work primarily with men dealing with anger, relationship difficulties, anxiety, loss, and low self worth.
I work in a practical, structured way, especially at the start. We focus on goals, patterns, and what’s driving the problem underneath the surface. Although anger is a common reason men get in touch, it’s rarely the whole story. It often sits on top of grief, loss, disappointment, or long standing relationship issues. By naming and understanding these patterns rather than pushing them down, men often find they feel less controlled by their reactions and more able to choose how they respond.
Before training as a counsellor, I spent over thirty years working in builders and plumbers merchants, alongside men every day. I come from a northern, working class background where mental health was not talked about, and I understand how difficult it can be to ask for help when you’re used to just getting on with things. My own experience of counselling was life changing, and it shaped how I work today.
I offer online counselling and face to face sessions in Stockport. I have a particular interest in men’s mental health, anger, relationship difficulties, partners of women going through menopause, Type 2 diabetes, and estranged adult children.
If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you, I offer a free 15 minute call so you can ask questions and see if it feels like a good fit. You don’t need to have the right words. Just a starting point is enough.
