I’m Owen, a BACP-registered psychotherapeutic counsellor working with men in Morpeth, Berwick-upon-Tweed and online across the UK.

My work is about helping you understand what is happening while also working towards the changes you want — whatever those changes look like for you.

My Approach: I take an active role in sessions. I’ll share what I’m noticing, offer gentle challenge when it feels helpful, and bring in ideas or practical strategies that might help. We might look at what has been difficult for you, the expectations you carry, the ways you’ve learned to cope, or what keeps pulling you back into the same thoughts and feelings.

I also use imagery, metaphor and more creative ways of exploring things when they feel useful. Sometimes approaching something differently can help us get closer to an experience that is difficult to put into words.

Sometimes our work will be reflective, sometimes more practical, and sometimes more creative. The aim is both to understand yourself more fully and to help things begin to feel different.

I work integratively, which means there isn’t one set way therapy has to look. A person-centred approach is at the heart of my work, with empathy, acceptance and honesty shaping the relationship between us. Transactional Analysis is the main framework I use, alongside psychodynamic and relational ideas, to help us understand how earlier experiences and learned expectations may still influence how you think, feel and respond today. We’ll keep checking that the way we’re working fits with what you want from therapy.

What I Work With: Sometimes you know exactly what you want help with. At other times it can be much harder to explain — you simply know that something doesn’t feel right.

You might find yourself thinking:

  • I don’t know why I feel like this — I just do
  • I’m holding it together on the outside but struggling underneath
  • Why can’t I stop thinking about everything?
  • I’m so hard on myself and I don’t know how to stop
  • I never seem to trust my own decisions
  • Something needs to change but I don’t know what

I work with men experiencing anxiety, overthinking, self-criticism, self-doubt, low self-esteem, low mood or depression. You might find yourself putting a lot of pressure on yourself, struggling with uncertainty, replaying conversations or decisions, or feeling as though you should be coping better than you are.

For some men, difficulties show up more strongly in relationships — perhaps through finding it hard to say what you need, avoiding conflict, putting other people first, feeling responsible for how others feel, or not knowing how to talk about what is happening internally.

I also work with grief and loss, loneliness and disconnection, relationship difficulties, stress, work-related pressures and the impact of difficult or traumatic experiences. You don’t need to fit neatly into one of these descriptions. You may simply feel stuck and know that you want something to change.

A little about me: Before retraining as a therapist, I spent over a decade working online in a coaching and educational capacity. That experience developed my interest in how people think, how we respond when things feel important or uncertain, and why understanding something intellectually doesn’t always make it easy to change.

That curiosity eventually led me into therapy myself and then into training as a therapist.

I’m particularly interested in the gap that can sometimes exist between knowing something and actually feeling or experiencing it differently. Therapy gives us the opportunity to explore both — understanding what may have shaped the way things are now, while also finding ways for something to begin to change.

I’m based in Northumberland and offer face-to-face therapy in Morpeth and Berwick-upon-Tweed, as well as online sessions throughout the UK.

Getting Started: I offer a free 15-minute introductory call so we can briefly talk about what has brought you to therapy, you can ask any questions you have, and we can see whether working together feels like a good fit.

There’s no obligation to continue afterwards. If you’d like to go ahead, we can arrange your first session from there.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes
  • I work with adults (18+)
  • In-person sessions in Morpeth & Berwick-upon-Tweed
  • Online sessions via Zoom, available throughout the UK
