Hi, I’m Tom. I believe effective therapy comes from a collaborate approach that can be adjusted to your specific needs, both in what you’re seeking from therapy overall and what’s most helpful for you each week.
I offer an empathic, non-judgmental, and confidential space to talk about anything in life that is troubling you. This may be specific issues or relationship dynamics, experiences from your past that you feel affect you and how you relate to the world now, or a general feeling you’re unsure about.
Our time working together in therapy will aim to help you to explore and express these issues and understand what they mean for you. This may be to help develop a greater sense of agency within yourself, or to heal from harmful past experiences.
To this end, I work integratively, drawing on Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches and have particular experience working with men suffering from trauma and complex trauma.
Before qualifying as a therapist I worked in the aid sector internationally and then in the homelessness sector in the UK. Given this, I have extensive experience working with people affected by homelessness or experiences in conflict environments.
My practice is located in Leith, I can also offer outdoor and at home sessions across Edinburgh. Please get in touch if you have any questions about these.
I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Edinburgh and am accredited with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
I have particular experience working with people affected by complex trauma. I also have extensive experience working with people new to therapy who are unsure how to start engaging with it.
